Plant Hammering & Embroidery Workshop with Emily Mackey

£65.00
sold out

Join textile artist Emily Mackey at Kindred House for an introduction to the process of ‘hammering’ - directly transferring colour and form from a botanical item onto fabric.

Once you have transferred your botanical print onto fabric, Emily will then show you some fixed embroidery stitches, as well as some more loose techniques for expressive embroidery to stitch over and embellish your design with. Emily will guide you into freeing up and exploring your own style, helping you to plan your own colours and design to create your own piece of textile artwork.

All equipment for the workshop will be provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own bits of greenery, plants, threads and fabric along if you would like to go off-piste and explore more!

Please remember to bring glasses and magnifiers if you use them, as there may be some fine work involved.

Refreshments will be provided.

Should you wish to book in to stay a night with us at Kindred House for this event, please send us a request through our booking enquiry form. Alternatively you can also book our ‘Plant Printmaking Creative Retreat Weekend’ for an all-inclusive two-night stay at Kindred House with full access to both our weekend workshops.

During our events, the guest house is reserved for the attendees who receive a 15% discount on their stay. Rooms are limited & tend to get booked quickly so get in touch early to avoid disappointment.

The workshop is limited to 6 places to ensure a safe working environment. If dates need to change due to Covid, you’ll be able to swap to the new date or obtain a refund if you’re unable to make the new date. Otherwise tickets are non-refundable.

…

Emily is a weaver and textile artist living and working on the Sussex coast. Emily remembers the moment she first stepped into a weaving workshop… she felt at home immeadiately and once she began weaving, she never looked back. She describes weaving as ‘instrinsic to who I am; it’s like breathing’. Emily also incorporates other techniques such as embroidery and straw plaiting, working across a variety of fibres, reflecting the needs of each piece she creates. Her sensitivity to the material is a hallmark of the work she produces.
